5% of Schools in Banteay Meanchey Remain Closed

Banteay Meanchey: Majority of the schools in Banteay Meanchey province have successfully reopened on Monday. 95% of the schools managed to welcome the students back. While 5% remains closed due to flooding as well as being used as quarantine centres for migrant workers coming from Thailand.

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has permitted all educational institutions both public and private throughout the capital-province to start reopening from 1 November. However, not all managed to reopen on Monday.

One of them is Banteay Meanchey province. Some areas are flooded due to continuous rains.

While there are also schools, specifically near the borders that are still being used as quarantine centres for the migrant workers coming from Thailand. These are the two reasons why only 95% have managed to welcome the students back.

Provincial Director of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports, Chhou Bunroeung, says those schools affected by flooding will not be able to reopen until the water completely recedes. And those being used as quarantine centres for the migrant workers need re-organisation and sanitisation to ensure safety to the students that are going back to school.
